Using the Online Ranking as a Training Tool

May 10, 2013

For those who haven’t discovered it yet, the Concept2 Online Ranking is a very large and constantly growing database of best times for twelve different distance/time pieces on the indoor rower or SkiErg. Results have been submitted by rowers and skiers from around the world. Its thousands of entries can be readily sorted by event, age group, gender, weight class, country, state, adaptive category and more. The online ranking can be a very useful resource and training tool, even if you never choose to post a PR and rank yourself. Continue Reading ›

20 x 30 Seconds Full Power with a CrossFit Champion

Jun 04, 2012

Rowing is not like rowing. This is something I (painfully) learned last weekend during the CrossFit Regionals in Ballerup, Denmark, while I was working out with Mikko Salo and Juha Puonti from Rogue Fitness (manufacturer of CrossFit equipment). Mikko won the CrossFit Games in 2009. As a competitive on water rower, I usually row for 30–45 minutes at low intensity and a heart rate near 145. From time to time I go for 250 or 500 meter sprints for interval work. The workout on the indoor rower with Mikko and Juha, however, was totally new to me: 30 seconds full power followed by 30 seconds rest for 20 repetitions. Continue Reading ›

Eric Murray: Dynamic 2k vs. Model E 2k

Mar 05, 2012

Fortunately for us, Eric Murray of the New Zealand pair did just that with a 2k on the Dynamic Indoor Rower in January and then on a Model E last weekend at a New Zealand team test. Eric has been an early adopter of the Dynamic erg and has had about as much time on it as anyone. Continue Reading ›

Model D vs. Dynamic: 2k Tests with Peter Dreissigacker

Sep 01, 2011

I am looking ahead to the indoor training season and realize that more people will be training on our newest indoor rower, the Dynamic erg, this winter. Comparing scores between the Model D and the Dynamic erg is the subject of speculation. The flywheel and monitor components are identical on the Model D and Dynamic, but the athlete may row differently on each. The results experienced may be unexpected. Continue Reading ›
