Every four years, the Olympics bring out wonderful stories of strength, courage, and passion. Concept2 recently met an athlete with a unique path to Olympic rowing. Two years ago, Daniel Marquardt weighed around 300 pounds and realized that he had to do something about it. So he bought a Concept2 Indoor Rower and started training. Once he realized he had potential in the sport, he set his sights on the Olympic Games. He’s currently preparing for the FISA Asian and Oceanic Olympic Qualifying Regatta in the heavyweight single scull (M1x) as a representative for Samoa. Continue Reading ›

Paralympic Continental Cup at Craftsbury

In the first week of January 2016, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center hosted a ParaNordic Continental Cup, including both ski and biathlon races. Competitors included members of Team USA and Team Canada as well as developing athletes. Races included categories for sit ski, standing adaptive, and visually impaired skiers. Sit, Stand, Kneel or Wheel—Using the SkiErg for Rehab

Proper SkiErg technique uses the legs as well as the arms and core. However, the SkiErg also works well as an upper-body-only training tool. This can come in handy when you’re dealing with a lower body injury.

If it’s an injury that still allows you to stand, this will probably be the most effective position for a workout. If standing is not an option, you can also use the SkiErg from either a sitting or kneeling position. And it’s also possible to wheel right up in a wheelchair. Continue Reading ›

We’re fortunate for cold winters here in Vermont, because thanks to a warm fire, Christine Glover joined us here at Concept2 a decade ago. “My husband bought the newspaper because we needed it to start the fire,” she explains. But before lighting it, “he glanced through the paper and saw the job ad for Concept2. He turned to me and said, ‘you should apply, that’s a great company’. SkiErg Skills and Drills: Bracketing Good Technique

When working on improving your technique, it can be helpful to bracket proper technique by spending a little time doing it “wrong” in certain ways. I use “wrong” loosely, since the SkiErg does allow a lot of room for creativity in the technique and motions used—especially if you are not training for competitive Nordic skiing.
