The second World Rowing Indoor Championships took place on Sunday, February 24, in the sunny climes of Long Beach, California. There was strong international flavor throughout the entire day. For the first time, the biggest international team came from Mexico, with 44 athletes competing. There were also large teams from France, Great Britain and Germany, but athletes came from far afield, with 35 separate countries represented, including competitors from Japan, South Korea, Egypt and Chile. Finding time to exercise can feel more difficult than the workout itself. Here at Concept2, our employees have found many ways to schedule fitness into their busy work days.
Even though Concept2 gives employees flexible hours and scheduling, we still need to juggle exercise between taking phone calls, building oars, shipping orders, having meetings, and other tasks and responsibilities. While some of our staff work behind desks, many others are on their feet in our warehouse, shipping and production areas. Even with a workout room easily available, it can still be tough to find time.

Concept2 has partnered with the World Rowing Federation (FISA), USRowing and the Long Beach Rowing Association to host the second World Rowing Indoor Championships on February 24, 2019, on the campus of the California State University in Long Beach, CA.
Athletes compete on the Concept2 Model D Indoor Rower, which has become the standard for indoor rowing competitions around the world. Each Model D Indoor Rower includes a powerful Performance Monitor that provides reliable data from race to race and between athletes. Over 700 competitors representing 171 clubs will race, 68 of them racing in para categories. Wrist-based heart rate monitors are increasingly popular because they are comfortable, convenient, and can provide continuous heart rate monitoring from exercise to everyday activities. However, we find that they often struggle with accuracy during rowing or skiing due to the tendons flexing while exercising. We recommend a chest belt if you’re looking for better accuracy.
