Coastal Rowing
Concept2 oars are designed for a wide range of rowing environments, including coastal, surf, and open ocean conditions.
Coastal Rowing Formats
Classic Coastal Rowing
This format involves longer-distance rowing in boats designed specifically for open water. These boats are wider and more stable than flatwater shells, making them suitable for rough conditions.

Beach Sprint Rowing
Beach sprints combine running, beach boat entry, and a slalom rowing course. Athletes race head-to-head over 250 meters, then sprint back to the beach.
This format will be introduced in the LA28 Olympic Games, offering a new entry point into competitive rowing without the need for a 2000m lake.

Ocean Rowing
Ocean rowing involves long-distance crossings, often unsupported, over thousands of miles. Rowers face extended exposure to weather and sea conditions.
The most popular ocean crossing race is the World's Toughest Row.
Concept2 provides custom oars for ocean rowing, designed for durability and reliability over prolonged use. If you need oars for your ocean crossing, please contact us early at [email protected]

Gig Rowing
Gig rowing uses fixed-seat wooden boats, typically with six rowers and a coxswain. It is most common in Cornwall, UK and the Channel Islands, UK but is expanding globally.
Concept2 offers sweep oars compatible with gig setups.

Other Craft
Concept2 oars are also used in non-standard setups such as ice canoes, sliding-seat canoes, skiffs, drop in sculling systems, and expedition boats.
We can advise on specifications for custom configuration, including blade type, shaft stiffness, and grip options.
Coastal Shaft Design
The Coastal Skinny shaft is reinforced for increased durability under load and impact. These are suitable for heavier boats, surf conditions, and extended training or expedition use.
