Women’s History Month is a time to recognize the athletes who continue to expand what strength and competition can look like. From early mornings dragging yourself to practice to the thrill of finally hitting a new PR, women in sport have pushed boundaries, challenged expectations, and inspired others to step forward with confidence.

For Molly Vollmer, a hybrid athlete, coach, and mom of two, sport has been a lifelong thread connecting different seasons of life from youth soccer to CrossFit competitions and now HYROX racing. Some days that meant juggling bedtime routines with workouts, coffee in hand, while other days were just trying not to trip over a soccer ball in the garage.

Her story reflects something we see across the Concept2 community every day: strength isn’t defined by a single moment or result. It’s built through consistency, resilience, and the willingness to keep showing up.

Like many athletes, Molly’s journey started early. She began playing soccer at five years-old and continued through the age of twenty. The sport shaped her competitive mindset and her love for training. “I thrived on the conditioning, the intensity, and being part of a team,” she says, laughing at memories of muddy cleats and endless laps in the summer heat.

During those years, she was inspired by the athletes who helped define women’s sports for an entire generation. Watching the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team compete, and particularly soccer legend Mia Hamm, expanded her view of what women could accomplish in athletics. “That era was powerful. It showed me that women could be strong, competitive, confident, and still command the biggest stage.”

When her soccer career ended, she realized how much she missed the competitive environment and the sense of community that came with it. Running and yoga helped fill the gap for a while, but in 2008 she walked into a CrossFit gym, and found something that felt familiar. Loud music, clanging bars, and a community that cheered even if she failed a lift. “It brought back the challenge I loved about soccer, but also the community piece I didn’t realize I was missing.”

By 2011, Molly had entered her first CrossFit competition and signed up for the CrossFit Open. Over the next seven years she competed both individually and on teams. Team competition ultimately became her favorite format. “There’s something special about pushing yourself alongside other people and working toward a shared goal,” she says, remembering the workouts where every rep was earned and teammates always had your back.

Today, Molly supports Street Parking members as the head of Nutrition. She helps people simplify their approach to fueling performance. Her philosophy centers on making fitness sustainable for real life. “Fitness and nutrition have become way overcomplicated,” she explains. “There’s so much noise that people end up feeling stuck before they even start.” Instead, she focuses on helping people build habits that work within the reality of busy schedules, careers, and families. That perspective resonates strongly with the Street Parking community many of whom train in garage gyms or carve out time for workouts between other responsibilities.

This past year Molly decided to celebrate her 40th birthday by setting a new athletic goal: running a half marathon and chasing a personal best. Around the same time, she and her friend, Michaela North began talking about HYROX as well.

With HYROX’s combination of endurance running and functional fitness stations, the event felt like a natural fit for Molly. “It was similar enough to CrossFit to feel familiar, but different enough to be a new challenge.”, she said.  But what ultimately drew Molly and her partner to HYROX, was the opportunity to compete together. “We had competed against each other before in CrossFit,” she says. “Now we finally got the chance to compete side by side.”

Molly and Micaela did their first HYROX Pro Double together in Anaheim, California in December of 2025, finishing in a time of 1:08:42. They not only were 2nd in the age group, but also qualified for the HYROX World Championships in Stockholm, Sweeden in June of 2026.

Both Molly and Michaela are currently navigating similar life stages filled with work, family responsibilities, and full schedules. HYROX offered a competitive goal that could fit into that reality for them. “It gave us something to train for and something that pushed us, but in a way that fit into our lives.”

Concept2 Ergs have been a consistent part of Molly’s training throughout her fitness journey from CrossFit competitions to preparing for HYROX in her garage gym. “Concept2 machines have always been tools I come back to,” she says. While building running volume for HYROX, Ergs became especially valuable for maintaining aerobic conditioning without adding additional impact. She says, “With the amount of mileage I was running each week, having a low-impact option really mattered.”

RowErg and SkiErg workouts allowed Molly to continue building endurance while giving her body a break from the pounding of running. They also make training more accessible in a home gym setting. “When you’re balancing weather, schedules, and kids, having reliable cardio equipment at home removes friction,” she says. “It makes it easier to stay consistent with Concept2 Ergs.”

For Molly, strength extends far beyond physical performance. “Strength is about more than lifting heavy or pushing through a tough workout,” she says. The resilience built during training often carries into everyday life whether in parenting, work, or navigating new challenges. “It’s about learning to stay calm and keep going when things feel hard.” As a woman in sport, strength also means confidence. “It means trusting your capabilities and not shrinking yourself to make other people comfortable,” she says.

One of the most meaningful aspects of Molly’s journey today is the opportunity for her children to witness it. Her kids have seen her train, compete, and work toward new goals even when the process is challenging. “They see me step outside my comfort zone and push myself,” she says. Those moments create opportunities to reinforce the same values she encourages in them: courage, perseverance, and curiosity.

During Women’s History Month, these everyday examples serve as powerful reminders that progress in sport happens on small and larger stages. It happens in communities, homes, stadiums, and training spaces everywhere.

If Molly could offer one piece of advice to younger athletes, it would be simple: “You’re far more capable than you think.” Over the years, sport has also changed how Molly views her body. Instead of focusing on appearance, she has developed a deeper appreciation for what it allows her to do. “That shift from how it looks to what it can do has been incredibly powerful.”

Her message to the next generation of women in sport: “Don’t shrink yourself. Take up space and go after the things that challenge and excite you.”

So, what’s next? In the short term, Molly plans to compete in the HYROX World Championships this June of 2026 with her HYROX partner Michaela North. In five to ten years, Molly’s goals are less about chasing results and more about maintaining the freedom that fitness provides. “I want to stay strong enough to say yes to whatever comes my way,” she says. Whether that means entering another race, supporting her kids at their games, or helping someone else discover their own strength, she plans to keep moving forward.

For the Concept2 community, stories like Molly’s are a reminder that strength in sport evolves with every stage of life and that the impact of women in athletics continues to grow with every athlete willing to step up and try.
