Introducing a New Race in ErgRace: Tug of War

ErgRace continues to grow as the platform for indoor racing, and we're excited to announce the latest addition to its race format lineup: Tug of War. Hot on the heels of the Elimination Race and Chase Race, Tug of War brings a new kind of head-to-head competition to the RowErg, SkiErg, and BikeErg. We’ve taken it to a number of events over the past few months, and it’s proven to be a great hit each time

Tug of War is exactly what it sounds like: a battle between two sides trying to establish a big enough lead to win the race. The format works for individuals going head-to-head or for teams competing together, and it's compatible with all three Concept2 cardio ergs.

How It Works:

• Set up a Tug of War race in ErgRace just as you would any other race format and choose the distance ahead each team needs to get to win.
• Competitors race against each other in a head to head format with a special ErgRace display.
• The race ends if someone creates a big enough gap or, if neither team opens up a big enough lead to win outright, when the time runs out, whoever is in the lead at that point will win.

Tug of War works for both individuals and teams, which makes it a fun format for schools and clubs.

Setup Tips:

• Choose a winning gap and a time duration that suits your athletes: we find that a distance of around 10 to 20 meters works well with a time cap of about minute or so to create high-intensity head-to-heads.
• For team events, make sure you mix athlete abilities across teams to keep competition balanced and engaging.
• Try and display the race on a screen visible to the room as seeing the gap shift in real time is helps makes Tug of War gripping.
• Tug of War works on the RowErg, SkiErg, and BikeErg, so you can run mixed-machine events or keep it consistent across one discipline.
