The 2025 HYROX World Championships are happening in Chicago, Illinois, June 12-15, and Concept2® is excited to be there as a global partner of Hyrox. The world’s fittest athletes will descend upon Chi-town over four days of intense competition to see who has what it takes to be crowned.
What is HYROX?
HYROX is the functional fitness race that combines strength with endurance. It is a continuous grind of eight rounds of one-kilometer runs followed by stations consisting of SkiErg®, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, RowErg®, farmers carry, lunges and finally wall balls. HYROX has taken the fitness race scene by storm - growing into a global series of standardized races across five continents.
What races are happening at the 2025 HYROX World Championships and when?
2025 has a new four-day format with different divisions competing on separate days. For the first time, HYROX introduces the Elite 15 Pro Doubles division, where two men or two women team up to compete at the highest level. This structure gives athletes the unique chance to qualify for and compete in both Singles and Doubles divisions – something that was not possible in previous years. The schedule for the weekend is as follows:

How do participants qualify for the 2025 HYROX World Championships?
For Elite 15 races, participants are invited based on their finishes at designated events throughout the season, or if they were a top three individual from the previous season. For individuals, spots are earned by placing in the top three at one of the four HYROX Majors throughout the season, or by getting a roll down if one of the top 3 athletes had already qualified via a previous race. The remaining 3 spots for both men and women were awarded to the top finishers at the HYROX Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) event in Barcelona on April 26, 2025.
For Elite 15 doubles, HYROX selected five races throughout the season that would act as qualifying races. These were Melbourne, Houston, Paris, Miami, and London Olympia. To punch their ticket to the World Championships, Pro Doubles teams had to finish in the top three.
For the Pro divisions, qualification is a bit more multidimensional. The World Championships offer a limited number of qualifying slots for the top performers in each Pro age division. The number of these spots largely depends upon the number of participants at the events annually. After each HYROX event, qualifying participants will be sent an email offering them the opportunity to claim their place at the World Championships. Each qualifier needs to make his/her decision within 48 hours of receiving the invitational email. If qualifiers do not accept their spot, the spot rolls down and is offered to the next fastest athlete. This means it is possible to qualify outside of the automatic qualifying spots.

Who to watch the 2025 HYROX World Championships
Elite Women to Watch
Veteran Lauren Weeks will come into the Championships with the world record and fastest Elite women’s time of the season under her belt with a 56:22 that she clocked earlier this season at the Glasgow Major. Weeks is the 2020, 2021, and 2023 HYROX world champion, and clocked an Open division world record at the HYROX North American Open Championships, finishing in a blistering 55:38. She has been incredibly dominant all season long and is sure to throw-down when it matters most. Meg Jacoby, the reigning 2024 HYROX World Champ, is coming into the Championships hungry to defend her title. Clawing back from injury, Meg has attributed her ability to bounce back so quickly due to her dedication to preserve her fitness base, spending hours on the Concept2 BikeErg when she wasn’t able to do her standard HYROX training regimen. This was evident as she nearly broke the mixed doubles world record with Lukas Storath, and is coming in with a top five fastest Elite 15 Women’s double time with partner Camilla Massa. While Weeks and Jacoby are both seasoned HYROX racers headed into the World Champions, they are sure to be challenged by rookie Joana Wietrzyk. The former Australian aspiring tennis pro placed third in her debut in Amsterdam, won the Hong Kong Major, and posted a Personal best of 56:48 in Glasgow – faster than the previous world record. The 22-year-old’s speedy rise to the top puts her in contention for the title in Chicago.
Elite Men to Watch
Reigning HYROX world champion and previous competitive swimmer Alexander Roncevic comes in with a dominant win in Amsterdam with a time of 54:07. Roncevic has since taken a measured approach during the season before the Championships, opting for limited races. With focus on the World Championships, Roncevic is ready to defend his title. Roncevic will have his work cut out for him leading into the Championships with standouts like Australia’s James Kelly in the field. Kelly is heading into the Championships with a commanding win in Hong Kong and a new world record in Glasgow with a time of 53:22 under his belt. Despite adversity and rough races, do not rule out three-time world champion Hunter McIntyre from the action with his tenacious grit and racing experience. Others to watch out for are Rich Ryan, Jake Dearden, Ryan Schadegg, and Tom Rodgers.
Elite Women Pro Doubles to Watch
With most Elite 15 women circling back to take a swing at the Elite Women’s Pro Doubles, there is certainly no shortage of talent. One team that stands out is the Australian duo Tia Toomey and Joanna Wietrzyk. Coming in with a time of 54:24, the standout CrossFit star and stellar HYROX rookie are determined to make a splash at the first Pro Double’s race ever at the HYROX World Championships. Other dynamic duos to watch out for are Americans Lauren Weeks and Lauren Griffith, Germans Linda Meier, and Viola Oberländer, Brits Lucy Procter and Sinéad Bent, and the American/Italian pair of Meg Jacoby and Camilla Massa.
Elite Men Pro Doubles to Watch
Similarly to the women, most Elite 15 men are coming back to compete in the Elite Men’s Pro Doubles. The British and German duo Fabian Eisenlauer and Jake Williamson come in with the fastest time from Berlin, having scorched the Men’s Open Doubles World Record with a time of 47:57. Other teams to watch out for are the American/Spanish pair of Rich Ryan & Pelayo Menendez-Fernendez, Americans Rylan Schadegg and Ryan Kent, Brits Charlie Botterill and Ollie Russell, and the pair of James Kelly and Jake Dearden.
