WinXP and e-Row

e-Row was originally designed for Windows 3.1, but over the years has been updated to work on Windows 95 and 98. In e-Row release 4.0 and above, Windows Me support was added, and Windows NT "user mode" communication drivers were included to make e-Row compatible with Windows NT. Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, and Windows XP Pro all also use NT class "user mode" drivers, so these Operating Systems work from a communications standpoint.

So far, Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home seems to work without major problems; however this statement is not intended to guarantee that e-Row will work on these platforms.

There are reports from users that Windows XP Pro has difficulties with "user permissions." e-Row works fine when logged in as administrator, but may not work properly when logged in as a "user."

Known Problems with Windows XP Pro and XP Home

Installing e-Row 4.1 on XP Pro using a "User" account will not work: The install-shield starts, but it never completes. There is no planned fix for this problem, as applications should be installed by an "administrator" of your computer.

Installing e-Row 4.1 on XP Home while logged in with "Limited" user account will not allow e-Row to install; however e-Row appears to run on a "Limited" account. There is no planned fix for this problem, as applications should be installed by an "administrator" of your computer.

After installing e-Row with an administrator account, running e-Row on Windows XP Pro from an account with only "user" permissions causes multiple problems, such as: "Low Priority System Error…"; "Some PM2+ units are not reporting valid checksums…"; etc.

When e-Row is run from a XP Pro or Windows 2000 "User" account, or a Windows XP Home "Limited" account, e-Row will complain that: "e-Row could not determine the location of your web browser… you will not be able to use the online help in e-Row." This can be fixed by going into Options | Preferences | click [Browse] and find your browser (usually in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE).

Windows XP Pro (and probably XP Home) puts up little bubble messages, such as Activation Reminders. These can flash on/off over top of e-Row, which can be annoying and interfere with e-Row's operation. For information from Microsoft on how to turn these bubbles off, please look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base, article Q307729, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q307729.
