  • e-Row is not compatible with Windows Vista.

e-Row Version 4.1 Build 115

Description

Release 4.1 contains the following changes:

  • In a venue race, the PM2+’s are programmed with the race time or distance. On very rare occasions a PM2+ will not "take" the information and will remain in "just row" mode. While idling at the "Stop" sign just before a race, e-Row will check the PM2+’s for proper programming. If one or more units did not program properly, a warning will be displayed. If this happens, back out to the main e-Row screen and restart the race.
  • In Ver 4.0 of e-Row, a different driver was installed for Win 95, 98, Me (a "VXD" driver) than was installed for Windows NT/2000/XP (a "UMD" driver). The VXD driver performed well, but the UMD driver for NT class operating systems did not perform well in multi-boat applications. In this case "perform" is defined as how smoothly the boats move, which is determined by how many times per second e-Row can obtain information from all the PM2+’s. Ver 4.1 installs a new User Mode Driver for all OS’s and significantly improves multi-boat (venue race) performance. For Venue Races, NT/2000/XP performance is good; however the driver still performs better on 95/98/Me. Concept2 still recommends Windows 95/98 for Venue Races.

Downloading Instructions

We recommend that you download and save our program to a temporary location on your PC’s hard disk drive. With most PC’s and web browsers, clicking on our Save or Run button will give you the option to either run the program or save it. To ensure that you are presented with a Save option, we recommend that you right-click the Save or Run button and select Save Target As. This will result in a Save As screen that will allow you to select a location to save our file.

Installation

Hardware setup

  1. For a single indoor rower, connect the PM2+ cable to the top jack on the back of the PM2+. Connect the other end to the serial port adapter (9 or 25 pin) which then gets plugged into your computer’s RS-232 serial port. The PM2+ and e-Row does not support USB serial ports.
  2. For multiple ergs, connect a cable from the bottom jack of the first PM2+ to the top jack of the second PM2+, and so on to create a daisy chain. Note that the PM2+ at the end of the chain (farthest from the computer) becomes PM2+ number 1 (lane 1).

Software Installation

  1. Although the application should install correctly on top of any existing e-Row application, we recommend that you first uninstall any existing version of e-Row. All workout and race definition and result files should not get deleted during the uninstall, however we recommend that you create a copy of these files if desired. They are located in the subfolders located at C:\Program files\Concept II\e-Row… To perform the e-Row uninstall, use the standard Windows “Add/Remove Programs” icon in the Control Panel. If prompted to delete the files custser.sys and/or EPMCOMM.vxd, enter Yes to delete them. These are drivers related to e-Row v3.1.

Note: This uninstall process will not completely uninstall e-Row. Some folders, files and registry values remain. It is not necessary to remove these files, folders, and keys.

  2. Once the e-Row uninstall is complete, reboot PC/laptop.
  3. Run the new downloaded version of e-Row to perform the installation. To do this use Start -› Run and then use the Browse button to locate and select the downloaded file. Then on the Run screen, press OK. Follow the installation wizard to complete the process. For Windows NT/2000, the installation may require an Administrator account.
  4. The installation will create an e-Row icon on your desktop and in the Start -› Programs -› Concept II -› e-Row menu.

Starting e-Row

  1. Double click on the e-Row desktop icon.
  2. If prompted with a Communications Port screen, confirm the selection of the used serial port.
  3. Once e-Row starts, select Options -› Hardware and press the Assign PM2+ Numbers button and enter the number of PM2+’s connected to your computer, then press OK. e-Row will attempt to communicate with each one and will indicate if it was successful. If at any time you change the number of PM2+’s connected, you will need to repeat this process.
  4. From the File menu, you are now ready to Just Row, Race, or Workout.

Communication Error Handling

Note: These features have been added to e-Row v4.0

  1. If e-Row detects any intermittent and recoverable communication failures between the PC and the PM2+, a small yellow box will appear at the far right side of the menu bar. If possible, e-Row will determine where the failure occurred. So next to the yellow box will be either a question mark, or some numbers representing where the communication problem is in the event of multiple PM2+’s connected to one PC. These failures are commonly due to cabling or configuration problems.
  2. If the communication failure is critical, then after a few seconds another screen will appear that informs the rower to “Keep Rowing”. This message will remain on the screen until the failure is cleared or the rowing event is cancelled.
