PM3 Frequently Asked Questions
Rower/Monitor Interchangeability
- Can a PM3 be installed on a Model C, B or A Indoor Rower?
Yes, a PM3 can be installed on a Models C, B, and A. These are available as retrofits. To order, click Shop above or call 800.245.5676 (U.S./Canada only).
- Can the same PM3 be used on all Model rowers?
No, the PM3 is configured to work either on a Model D or it is configured to be retrofitted to a Model B/C or Model A. Additionally, Concept2 has set up specific kits for each scenario to ensure you receive any additional hardware necessary for mounting a new style monitor to the flywheel on your model indoor rower. To order, click Shop above or call 800.245.5676 (U.S./Canada only).
- Does the PM3 use the same formulas as the PM2 and PM2+?
Yes, the PM3 uses exactly the same math to determine pace and output, and the internal metal flywheel design itself is unchanged (except that it is now painted blue and has new magnetics)—so the times are interchangeable with that of the PM2 and PM2+.
- Is e-Row compatible with the PM3?
e-Row is not compatible with the PM3 and therefore is not compatible with the Model D rower; however, many features of e-Row are included in the PM3. If you are interested in internet racing and complex workout management, please see the RowPro program from digitalrowing.com. If you are interested in Venue Racing (linking multiple Rowers with the PM3 monitor), please see our Venue Race page.
- Can a PM1, PM2 or a PM2+ be installed on a Model D?
No, a PM1, PM2 or PM2+ can NOT be installed on a Model D.
Getting Help with Your PM3
- I have a problem with my PM3. What do I do?
Please refer to the PM3 Troubleshooting page, which contains answers to many common problems. If the problem persists, or if you did not find the answer, please contact us by phone at 800.245.5676 or email at rowing@concept2.com (US and Canadian customers only. All other customers should contact their dealer.)
PM3 Batteries
- The PM2/PM2+ used AA batteries. Why did you choose D Cell batteries for the PM3?
The PM3 is a more complex monitor. As such, it requires more power to operate.
- How long will the D cell batteries last on my Model D?
The D cell batteries have 300 hours of life. The Model D/PM3 power generation will extend the battery's life far beyond that.
- How long will my D cell batteries last on my Model C once I retrofit to a PM3?
Approximately 300–350 hours. There is no power generation feature when retrofitting the PM3 to a Model C.
- Is there a way to find out how much battery power I have left?
Yes. On the PM3, go to More Options, Utilities, and then Battery. The amount of power left will be displayed as a percentage.
- Is there any way to get better battery life from the PM3 on my Model C?
Yes. You can power your PM3 from your PC or Mac's USB port.
Third Party Software and Computer Compatibility
- Is there third party software available for the PM3?
The software company Digital Rowing has developed a Windows based program called RowPro for the PM3 and PM2+. For more information about this product and what it does, please visit digitalrowing.com. This is not a Concept2 product.
- Is the PM3 compatible with RowPro from www.digitalrowing.com?
Yes, however a firmware update may be needed for your PM3. Please refer to the Digital Rowing web site for more information.
- Can I develop software for the PM3?
You cannot develop software for the PM3; however, you can develop software for your computer that will talk to the PM3 from your computer. A Windows programmer's interface guide is now available. To obtain a copy of the programming materials, please visit the Concept2 Training Forum and become a member. Once you become a member, you will find some forums for software development. Information about downloading the software development kit can be found on the Software Development page.
- I have a Macintosh computer. Is there software available for me?
Yes. Starting with Version 3.0.2, the Concept2 Utility is Mac-compatible. To run Version 3.0.2 or higher on your Mac, you will need to ensure that your PM3 is running Firmware Version 90 or above. Upgrading your PM3 to Version 90 must be done on a PC. Once your PM3 is on Version 90, future firmware updates can be installed with a Mac.
- I have a Linux computer. Is there software available for me?
-
Not at this time. The Mac and Linux drivers do not currently operate properly for the PM3 to communicate with these systems. If you are a software developer, please go to our Software Developer Forum.
