PM2/PM2+ Troubleshooting

This section is designed to help you diagnose and fix problems with your indoor rower. If you have questions or problems, or if you need further troubleshooting assistance, please call us at 800.245.5676 (US/Canada) or email us at rowing@concept2.com.

New problems may arise that are not dealt with in this troubleshooting section. We would appreciate any information you may have to help us deal with these situations.

Symptom Possible Cause Remedy
Monitor display fails to come on when you start to row. The AA batteries in the PM2 may be dead. Insert new batteries. See the  Battery Removal and Replacement PDF.
  If you just changed the batteries, they may be in upside down.
  1. Try reversing the orientation of the batteries.
  2. #2 If you have not just changed the batteries, try pressing the ON/OFF button. If there is still no life in the display, you could try new batteries. If this doesn't help, contact us. If the ON/OFF button does activate the display (with zeroes), there may be a problem with the monitor pickup.
  PM2/PM2+ pickup wire may not be securely plugged in on the back of monitor. Make sure the plug is inserted completely.
Faded or incomplete segments on the PM2 display. Poor connection between LCD and circuit board.
  1. Clean the LCD, the circuit board and the rubber elastomers that make the connections. Using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on a cotton swab, do the following:
    • Clean the edges of the LCD that make cont act with rubber strips.
    • Clean the two edges of rubber strips that make contact with board and LCD.
    • Clean the two rows of contacts on the circuit board.
    • Clean the areas of board where buttons (keypad) make contact.
    • Clean back side of buttons.
  2. If cleaning the monitor does not improve the display, replace the LCD with a new LCD available from Concept2. See the  PM2 LCD Replacement Instructions.
Entire monitor screen (not just heart rate display) goes blank when the heart rate cable is plugged in. A short-circuit that occurs if the heart rate cable is plugged into the PM2 while the monitor is turned ON. Push the ON/OFF button once to turn the PM2 off, then push the ON/OFF button again to turn the PM2 back on again. We suggest that the heart rate cable be plugged into the monitor when the PM2 is turned off.
The monitor is showing E011 or E012. This is a non-serious error code that is built into the PM2/PM2+. Hold down the four bottom buttons on the face of the monitor (recall, 2 set digits, ready). While holding these, press and release the ON/OFF button. You can release the four buttons now. The monitor should do some fast counting for 10-15 seconds and then display a number 5 in the center area. At this point, press and release the ON/OFF button again. Zeros should come up and the monitor should work.
The monitor is showing other error codes (E001-E010). May indicate a more serious problem with your monitor.
  1. Change the batteries.
  2. Hold down the four bottom buttons on the face of the monitor (recall, 2 set digits, ready). While holding these, press and release the ON/OFF button. You can release the four buttons now. The monitor should do some fast counting for 10-15 seconds and then display a number 5 in the center area. At this point, press and release the ON/OFF button again. Zeros should come up and the monitor may work then.
