PM4 Firmware Known Issues
By nature, any firmware/software is almost always in the development stage. If you think you have found a problem with the PM3 or PM4 firmware, please email rowing@concept2.com so we can look into the matter. It helps to tell us exactly what you were doing, what you observed and what you expected to happen.
Issue Lists

Known Issues for Firmware Versions 304–311
Version 311
There are no known issues for Version 311 at this time.
Versions 304–310
Symptom 1: Error code 573-1 may occur when powering up the performance monitor.
Resolution 1: A future firmware update will address this issue. In the meantime, use one of the following resolutions to fix the problem.
If you have not yet installed batteries in your performance monitor, do so now to resolve the problem.
If your monitor already has batteries in it, you can resolve the issue by removing the batteries and unplugging the USB cable and leaving the batteries and cable out for 24 hours.
If you need to get your monitor functioning quickly, instead of the 24 hour reset, you can perform the following factory reset. Just be aware that, although performing the following reset will resolve the problem, it will also clear all memory (including lifetime meters) as well as any language, date, and time settings:
- On the face of the monitor, press and hold the Change Units and Change Display buttons, while pressing and releasing the Reset button on the back of the monitor.
Symptom 2: The PM4 flickers, fades, or shuts off when connected to a Mac that has HP printer/scanner or some other HP device software installed on it. If you are not sure whether you have HP device software installed on your computer, please email rowing@concept2.com for assistance.
Resolution 2: This issue is resolved in PM4 Firmware Version 308 Beta 1 and higher; you will need to install PM4 Firmware Version 308 Beta 1 or higher on your PM4 to remedy the problem.
Important! To successfully install the firmware, you will need to use either a Windows PC or a Mac that does not have the HP software installed on it. If you do not have access to another PC or Mac, you will need to uninstall the HP software to allow for the PM4 update. To uninstall the HP software, use the uninstall link for the HP software under Applications, or contact HP for instructions. You may reinstall the HP software after updating the PM4.

Version 305
Changing speeds to higher speeds for Venue Racing not consistent.
Known Issues for Firmware Versions 25 or Lower
Version 25
There are no known issues for Version 25 at this time.
Version 24
Symptom: When accessing certain Information and Help screens, the performance monitor may display error code 42 or higher.
Resolution: Upgrade to PM4 Firmware Version 25. Until you are able to update the firmware, press Menu|Back to return to the previous screen and continue using the monitor.
Versions 21 and Lower
Static discharge causes erratic behavior of PM4—typically Just Row counts up to a minute or two of rowing then starts over at 0 again; or a fixed time or distance piece rows for about a minute and then just “freezes” as if the workout is over. Solution: Reset the monitor using the reset button on the back.
Version 21
Issue 1:
An infinite loop and/or a 44–94 error may occur when the following conditions are true:
- The monitor is on a "Just Row" workout
- The workout duration has just passed the 2 hour mark
- The monitor is showing the "All Numbers" workout view (the view that appears when you press the top grey button on the right of the monitor face during a workout)
- A LogCard is present in the monitor
If a LogCard is not present but the first three conditions are true, the monitor may present an infinite loop error and appear to reset, but will actually continue logging the workout.
Issue 2:
If your PM4 is connected to a computer via the USB cable, and you stop rowing during a time interval of a variable interval workout (you must have stopped rowing long enough for there to be a period of inactivity on the PM4), the PM4 terminates the workout but does not return to the Main Menu.
Version 19
Issue 1:
933 errors have been reported when the following occurs: When a PM4 is connected via USB cable to a PC and there is no software currently running on the PC, pressing the MENU/BACK button on the PM4 at the end of a workout may result in a 933 error. The immediate solution to fixing the error is unplugging the USB cable from the monitor, pressing the MENU/BACK button on the monitor until the Main Menu is displayed, and then plugging the USB cable back in. The recommended solution is to update the PM4 to Firmware Version 19.5 or higher. Version 19.5 contains the fix for this issue.
Version 16
Issue 1:
There have been rare reports of LogCards being inserted and being formatted because the PM4 thinks that the LogCard is a factory fresh card. Version 19 has added a prompt before formatting cards.
Issue 2:
Rare LogCard corruption when using third party software such as RowPro.
Issue 3:
Aborted Variable workouts not logging the results correctly to the LogCard.
Issue 4:
Error 137–84 when deleting the first user on a LogCard with multiple users
Issue 5:
“Edit user” and “Add User” screens had some bugs
Issue 6:
A few issues with Venue Racing
Issue 7:
Various screen formatting issues
Version 14
Version 14 was the initial version of PM4 firmware and was installed on PM4s between July 2006 and December 2006. Known issues for Version 14 are listed below. An upgrade to Version 16 firmware corrects these issues.
The known issues as of October 11, 2006 are as follows:
Issue 1: 571 Error
This error occasionally occurs when customers are using the rechargeable PM4 battery pack and the PM4 wakes up (either by being connected to a computer via USB or by pull of the Indoor Rower handle). Concept2 has identified some problems with the power and battery management in the PM4. Please update to the latest PM4 firmware for some improvements in the battery performance. More improvements are expected in the future, however there are situations where the rechargeable battery will become discharged. For more information on batteries, please visit the battery information section on our Frequently Asked Questions page.
If your rechargeable battery becomes discharged, you have the following options:
- Insert 2 "D" cell batteries into your PM4 and discontinue use of the rechargeable battery pack
- Recharge the battery using Concept2’s PM3/PM4 AC Adapter or the USB port on a computer (leaving the monitor plugged in overnight should charge the battery fully) every few months or as needed.
Issue 2: Older Suunto T6 belt allows you to select belt but does not provide heartrate information while rowing.
When using firmware Ver 14 in your PM4, older Suunto T6 belts may show up on the list of available belts, but there will be no display of heartrate when you are rowing. To solve this problem, please download and install the most recent firmware.
