There are two current versions of PM3 Firmware:

  • Version 101 (released November 2007)
  • Version 306 (released May 2009)

Concept2 recommends running the most current PM3 Firmware available. The version you require depends on the age of your PM3, although the functionality is the same in each case.

Firmware updates are done through the Concept2 Utility, which you can download at right. See below for detailed instructions. The Concept2 Utility will automatically provide you with the correct version for your PM3.

Installing the Concept2 Utility

To Download and Run this Setup Now

  1. Click Save or Run. The File Download window is displayed.
  2. On the File Download window, click Open. The InstallShield Wizard launches and guides you through the installation and setup.

Saving the Setup to Your Hard Drive for Later Installation

  1. Click Save or Run. The File Download window is displayed.
  2. On the File Download window, click Save.
  3. On the Save As window, navigate to the folder in which you would like to save the file and click Save.
  4. When you are ready to install the setup program, locate the file on your hard drive (same location as where you saved the file in step 3).
  5. Double-click the file to begin installation. The InstallShield Wizard will launch and guide you through the setup.

Notes:

  • Mac users may need to reboot following installation before attempting to use the Concept2 Utility.

Updating Your Firmware

Once you have the current version of the Concept2 Utility, take the following steps to update your firmware:

  1. Connect to the internet.
  2. Shut down any other PM3 applications (RowPro, for example) you have running.
  3. Connect your PM3 to your computer with the USB cable that came with your PM3. Windows machines may prompt you for information regarding the connection. If that happens, disconnect any other USB devices and ensure that you plug the USB cable in correctly. More info
  4. Launch the Concept2 Utility on your computer.
  5. On the main window of the Concept2 Utility, click .
  6. On the Settings window, click Firmware Updates.
  7. Select an update download method that best suits your scenario.
    • If you have only one monitor to update, select Automatically download firmware updates for the PM that is attached to this computer.
    • If you have multiple monitors to update (for example, in a health club setting) select Automatically download firmware updates for all PM monitors and models.
  8. Click Check Now. The Concept2 Utility will display a list of the current firmware versions.
  9. Select the firmware version you need, and then click Download Now. The selected firmware version is downloaded to your computer.
  10. When the Concept2 Utility prompts you to install the firmware on your PM, follow the installation wizard.

Important Notices

  • DO NOT PERFORM FIRMWARE UPDATES USING ANY FORM OF "VIRTUALIZATION" SOFTWARE. This includes, but is not limited to, products such as VirtualPC, Parallels, VirtualBox, VMWare, and so on. More info
  • Please report problems and feedback regarding the current PM3 Firmware Version to rowing@concept2.com. Problems and feedback may also be discussed in the Product section of the Concept2 Forum.
  • Very old firmware: If you have PM3 Firmware Version 82 or lower and have trouble updating to the current version using the Concept2 Utility, please try using the Firmware Version 101 file instead. Once on Version 101, you can then use the LogCard Utility for future updates.
  • Mac Users: If your PM3 firmware version is older than Version 97, you will need to connect your PM3 to a PC to upgrade to Firmware Version 101. Thereafter, you will be able to upgrade your firmware with the Mac version of the Concept2 Utility.
  • Macintosh OSX users with HP printer software installed should upgrade to the "Beta" firmware or contact rowing@concept2.com.
