Responsibilities:
- Partner with sales and marketing to understand customer needs, field application issues, pricing/margin requirements and other elements critical to the success of new products or product redesigns.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive innovation and creativity through design.
- Construct prototype mock-ups of products to evaluate performance, durability, aesthetics, and usability.
- Design and conduct experiments for troubleshooting, failure analysis, root cause identification, and durability.
- Assist in the creation of complete specification packages including detailed drawings, simulations, test results, and bill of materials.
- Identify, evaluate, and work with outside vendors as necessary.
- Follow new products through performance testing, final evaluation, production, and market release.
- Develop manufacturing test procedures and fixtures and analyze test and field returns.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and technical standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant mechanical and product design experience preferred
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, MSME Preferred
- Ability to communicate conceptual design ideas verbally and through simple sketches.
- "Hands-on" abilities required—should be capable of building mock-ups and preparing test samples, using standard shop equipment such as hand tools, drill press, band saw, table saw, etc.
- Experience with bringing products to market from design concept to introduction into the marketplace.
- Proficiency with CAD (such as SolidWorks or KeyCreator).
- Practical experience with analysis and troubleshooting at the component level. (Finite Element, thermal, shock, or vibration analysis a plus).
- Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to cultivate cordial and productive relationships with colleagues and vendors
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative work environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Competitive Rowing background (or other sports and fitness interest) desirable.
