The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kilometers).I made it. It took me 8 years and change. So now I'll go pole to pole it's a bit shorter 24859.82 miles (40008 km) so only 7 and a half years.
As an update, I'm at about 25% of the pole to pole journey. Starting In Poitiers France this puts me on the edge of the north pole. |

50 consecutive weekdays of half marathons just notched up. Quite pleased as I've averaged only slightly over 2mins/500m. also got into the top ten over-50s at half marathon and a solid top ten performer in Age Without Limits. Can't stop now the endorphins have kicked in! |

Thank you to the AWL team members for your encouragement and support. Currently back in the U.S. while wife does battle with cancer. So far, prognosis is excellent. Rowing has kept the my stress down. Highly recommend this activity to all. I row about an hour a day (at a good effort, 1:55 to 2:00), and I am in the best shape of my life. Participated in the FRC 2009 and met my personal goal. I was wore out after the first two weeks but watching other AWL members push themselves to the limit help me continue in my efforts. To all, enjoy the journey of life and erging.

Joined AWL in 2007 and get plenty of motivation from the many competitions we compete in. It's also encouraging to get EM's from the team captain and other team mates about monthly team competitions, individual and club achievements. Everyone is most welcome to join AWL, we have members of all standards in all countries. The more the merrier. Just started rowing on 17th Oct after losing 2 months through injury. Happy rowing to everyone for 2009/10. Please include your EM details if you want a response to your EM, thanks. |

With a lifetime total of 4 million meters getting very close I thought it was time to revise my profile. Having completed the 2006 Solstice in three easy parts I challenged a much younger fellow gym user to do it properly in 2007. So with a half marathon under our belts I had to accept his return challenge - the 2007 BIRC at Birmingham. Mission accopmlished got the t-shirt and the (gold) medal with a lousy time whilst he had to settle for 8th place in a personal best. Next year!!!!
Since then I managed 215k in the Seasonal Challenge and expect to clock up a similar figure during January having joined 'Age Without Limits'

Started rowing on a Concept2 model B at a local Community College in 2000. After a 2yr hiatus, my wife bought me a model C for Father's day and my Birthday. Began rowing with new erg on 6/12/02. Goal for me is to get into better shape, lose weight, reduce stress and maximize well being.
Going to slow down on the Erg for the summer months... if I can! :-)

For years my exercise regiment consisted of running and weight training while rowing on my Concept2 for cross training or bad weather workouts. After 2 torn achilles tendons and numerous calf injuries I finally stopped running, so now I'm concentrating on erging and entering some indoor races and accomplishing the longer distances. I'm looking forward to the competition and camaraderie. |

A friend of mine got me interested in rowing when she sent me a short video of her completing a 250k challenge at her gym. She extolled the virtues of the Concept 2, including the online community. I lurked around the Concept 2 forums for a few days, where knowledgeable people shared secrets to the treatment of 'butt-blisters', and offered spirited arguments in the 'strapped' vs 'strapless' debate. Clearly, this was a community of souls with more arcane knowledge than even a gathering of Star Trek conventioneers, albeit at a much greater fitness level and tolerance for physical discomfort. The online rankings and member profiles motivate me to improve my times/distance. I am very happy with my new-found muscle tone and aerobic level, and I am confident I will be using my Concept 2 long after the restraining order keeping me more than 500 feet away from George Takei has expired. |

The Concept 2 rower has fostered a rewarding and satisfying experience.
Many thanks, again, to Joe Gutstadt for the invitation to join Age Without Limits; and for his steadfast bonhomie encouraging the best effort from AWL members. Solidarity, virtual or no, is a strong rowing motivator.
The fitness benefits extend into my occupation as an easel painter, specifically in landscape painting. The image to the left depicts the Fairmount Gazebo. It is next to Boathouse Row which harbours much of the "Schuylkill Navy"

Put too much weight after business trips to the US, below average for team last year, times too slow to put on site, proud to have been with AWL when they were still 2nd team. What am I doing in picture, thanks for the interest folks. I am actually donating Palettes, if any of you out there are thinking of becoming a blood donor go ahead and do so, everywhere is desperate for blood supplies. Feel free to drop me an email anytime, best regards Gordon |

Started rowing in 2000 when I bought a model C which I switched for a model D when they came out. My PB was 6:43 a few years ago but now I'm happy when I go sub 7:15 :-(.
I didn't row so much from 2005 till september 2008 when I joined AWL. and got motivated again. Passed my 5th, 6th and 7th milion meters last season, plan to do at least 3000 km this season.

back from Greece, lost 5 weeks on the C2!
I'm looking for competitive training partners on the C2 log. Anyone who's interested add me, ID #835357.
Million Meter club on 6/1/2009 :) My first rowing experience was in high school, with Bill Lightbowne who crewed at Penn in the 20's. He was a brilliant engineer who designed and built a drop-in rowing rig for a racing canoe, which we used to row on Florida's choppy Intracoastal Waterway. That was 27 years ago, and started up again in March 2008.
Goals: 2M meters, 1K 3:00, 2K 6:20, 5K 17:00, 10K 35:00 by year's end. I also hope to figure out a way to row on water this year, maybe with the Washington & Lee Univ club.
PB: 500m 1:25.7, 1K 3:06.1, 2K 6:33.3, 5K 17:15.7, 10K 35:29.2, 30' 8457m, 60' 15,755m, 21,097m 1:20:11.5.

Bougth my C2 rower about a year ago (2008). After doing some occasional training. I hooked up for some online sessions in rowpro. That started my almost daily 5000m training sessions and doing a 30 minutes in the weekend. Still looking for better performance in time and in distance is whats keeping me on the machine. Hoping to lose some weight as well in near future. First milion reached in a year. Plan to the next in 10 months. |

(Sept/08). Found a Concept 2 at my gym. Will use for cross training. Have always wanted to try this indoor rowing thing.
(Jan/09). Have decided to enter the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships (in Toronto) as a lightweight. Will pick up my own Concept 2 after the meet.
Sept/09. Have been enjoying my new erg but skating was keeping me pretty busy. Have logged 1,600,000m now and managed 2000m in 7:07.7 Looking forward to another off-season on the erg. Sk8toronto.com |

Two of my children rowed in either high school or college and we got an erg machine. I never used it but last Thanksgiving my daughter said "You know, Dad, there is this Holiday Challenege....." So I have been hooked since and really enjoy the workouts on the machine. Also have joined a great Virtual team - Age WIthout Limits - and am continually amazed that over 500 people are always on line submitting times & distances on the 'Net. What a community and associated connectedness. Now, if I could just get a little faster.... See you in cyberspace. |

Have been rowing for years now ,just passed 4 million in Oct 2009 and onwards to 5!!
Current PBs - 5K = 17:51; 2k = 6:40; 10k = 36:56; 30min = 8217m; 60min = 15907m; HM = 1:21:53; M = 2:56:28.
Starting to do more distance rows (HMs, 30Ks). Aiming to compete at BIRC Nov 2009, so training proper begins New Year's Day 2009!
If I look knackered on the pic it's because that was taken just after I finished my first (and only - so far) marathon! |

Big life changes: have entered my 8th decade and fully retired from medicine; also regrettfully have stopped riding the beloved horses - too much traffic and his temperament not suitable: they still have a home for life though and are fun to look after. So I'm concentrating on other pastimes - as well as rowing of course, though that remains slower than I like. |

When I was about 52 I decided to row 10 million by my 60th birthday. I'm still plugging away with the 6 million coming up. Motivation isn't a great problem but if anyone want to pair up (or gang up) for some intermediate targets drop me a line. stephen_warman@hotmail.com |

Primary focus is sculling. I use the erg for conditioning to support sculling. However I live on the ocean which is frequently not ideal for rowing so erg to stay in shape when the water is bumpy. |

Started rowing about 3 years ago at the Gym at work to get fit and lose weight. Lost the weight now but still row about 3 times a week for fitness and fun. Mainly do 5ks always aiming for 1:58 splits or below, and have started doing 10ks after doing the 200k Holiday challenge. Would like to do a sub 19 minute 5k - current best is about 19:17. NEWSFLASH 18.51 5k achieved! Also do some 2ks PB is now 7.11 could go a bit quicker sub 7 may be possible with some training! Used to do 30 mins PB 7,788m but now stick to 5ks/10ks. Have been logging metres since December 2007 so missed out on nearly 2 years and a million+ metres. |

I discovered the Concept 2 when I joined a new gym that opened nearby in May of 2006. Since that time I have logged over 3 million meters and still enjoying it. I have also enjoyed participating in the various challenges throughout the year which definitely gives you an added incentive to push a little harder each session. |

I first came across the rower in Hong Kong in 1993 and thought it a contraption worthy of the Spanish Inquisition. However I began using the rower seriously since january 2003and I've improved my times from 43 minutes and today 05/11/03I achieved a new personal best of 38'06.8 .
The plan is to go sub 38 minutes sometime soon!

5' 10" tall. CrossFit uses rowing on the C2 for some of their workouts and I enjoyed the challenge so much I sold the treadmill and bought a model E for my home gym in FEB 2009. Goals: Improve row times and cardio fitness so I can complete the crossfit workouts without having a coronary or needing an Oxygen tank. The C2 is an excellent machine for the money. |

Quit smoking a couple of years ago and started running. In 2007 I was "blessed" by an achilles injury and I temporarily stopped the running and added some cycling. But cycling when the weather is windy and rainy... and so I decided to try this C2 that's standing in my living room now. I still prefer the outside but am liking it now a lot.

July 2007 I had a nasty fall off our new prospect vaulting horse - a large grey percheron mare and injured my back. Thankfully nothing was broken. Fitness is my career, so needless to say I don't need to be falling off too many times. It has taken some time for the healing process and instead of riding I devoted my horse focus on training this horse and my daughter for equestrian vaulting. I needed something to restore my own fitness level to greater heights in addition to the classes that I teach. I had wanted a C2 for some time, and setting up fitness centres with C2's (I run 3) made the desire that much more. Finally Feb of 2008 I took the plunge, traded in my spinning cycle for a C2 D. The challenges, team participation and encouragement has been great. What a great thing Concept 2 has going. I am impressed with the running of the AWL team. I receive emails and encouragement as a team and individually - I am inspired enough that I may take my rowing to the water and participate in the Row for Heart program this summer (Heart and Stroke of Ontario). Thanks to all of you for participating in Concept 2's program so that new comers like me can come on board with such unexpected motivation from others. |

Had my C2 for a long time after using them in the gym in my 20's. However its been gathering dust for quite a bit of that time, but since March 2007 I've been trying to combine rowing with Badminton in order to lose weight and get fitter.
------
Hit my first million after 6 months, 2nd just after 12, 3 million is my next goal. Feeling much better for all the rowing. |

My first experience with the erg was at a local fitness center in my hometown in Summer '05. Scheduling conflicts interfered with my ability to get to the gym as often as was necessary so I decided to get my own Model D
in August '07. Since that time,
Rowing has become much more than a means to stay active and fit; It's truly a form of meditation for me every day. A way of renewal that grows each time I use it. I'm positively addicted! |

I was enjoying the rowing and my stamina was improving. Unfortunately I have deveploped a frozen shoulder and have been advised not to row, very disappointed as I feel I will go back to square one. |

I've been using these rowers for 15 years now, ever since I stopped smoking. Now that I am a grandparent I find that these machines are great for keeping in trim to prepare for the babysitting duties. I thought that I was getting fast, until I signed up on this website that is and started ranking my times.
I split my rowing times between a local gym when I am at home and the gym on the offshore gas rig where I work. My fastest times are when I am offshore and I seem to be better with middle distances around 10k.
I'm chasing my way up the leader board but I'm starting to wear out parts of my body. Thank goodness for the foam seat pads for these rowing machines. |

Started rowing as cross train for my running in 2006. I had been running marathons but the injury limits my miles. I hope to row a marathon later this year. I find I do better as the event gets longer. I may also try to run a marathon when I reach 65. |

I started rowing on 5 Jan 2007 for fitness and weightloss. Had some time out this year for skiing and took a long time to get back to previous form. Now trying to better 1:56 pace for 10k and would like to cut some time off my 500m as well. |

I've been rowing off and on for about 15 years, and finally I'm getting into a great routine. I'm on track for 1 million meters this year by the end of May. Joining the challenges helps a ton. Thanks Age Without Limits. I'm on track to lose 90#'s by eoy. |

Purchased model d Nov. 22 2006 and went right to work on the holiday challenge.
I love to ski and windsurf but the C2 is great because I can get on it almost every day!
I'm coming down the home stretch for my marathon training for my marathon on October 26th. I easily beat my old 10K record in today's training session (10/2/08) |

I feel fortunate to work for an employer in the sporting goods industry -- we had an old Model B at our company gym that I loved to work out on. Years later, I was able to afford my very own C2 for home use. It has been a huge blessing because it enables me to exercise even now that I am a busy working mom.
I was so pleased to finish my first holiday challenge in 2007 and now I am looking forward to seeing improvements in my performance as I take on the upcoming virtual challenges. |
