Lewiston Maine USA Hey Free Spirits! I grew up in Northern Maine, Millinocket, for those of you who have heard of it. A canoeist and Kayaker. Tried out for the crew team at Syracuse after blowing out my ankle playing football. National champions in Men's Heavyweight 8 in 1987. Graduated in '90 and didn't touch an erg again until 2006... when I was contacted by Michelle and Free Spirits. The rest is history... I remembered how much I loved to row, and how much I enjoyed being part of a team. Thanks Free Spirits for the encouragement. Ballston Lake NY USA I am the other half of the wife-husband team on the 10,000 meter board and in Free Spirits. We stayed on the 10K board the last two years, and are somewhat less compulsive now, but we intend to finish on the 10K board again. We started erging at the suggestion of a trainer at an US Sailing symposium in 2003 that rowing was more sailing specific than elliptical machines. Like many others on the boards, a former long distance runner with defective legs. FRC2003, FRC2004YMCA, FRC2005, FRC2006

Completed my second marathon which was easier than the first (how can one say such a thing)- will probably do it again before the year is out. Still have the challenge of completing 50 km to fulfill. The inspiration and support found in belonging to a team can not be underrated. For anyone new to the game don't be afraid to ask someone who belongs to a team, you'll find there's a whole new world out there. Take a look at our website www.freespiritsrowing.com.

I lost 15lbs in this week and gained so much energy I have been rowing most days ever since. I looked for inspiration from "C2" - and found Free Spirits; on 7th/8th Feb managed to row for 24hours covering 254,220 m which took me over 5million lifetime metres. I did the damage in the first half of the row with 1:51 and 1:52 splits, I then hung in there for the the remainder. Weight control is also an added bonus to my training routine. Fredericksburg TX USA Erg owner since 1988. Back in the 90's I had some top 10 placings for the 1/2 hour and 1 hour rankings and did 10 million meters from 94-98. These days I use the erg mostly for cross training but sometimes get into a groove of accumulating meters. Road cycling has been my primary sport since the 70's. I am currently riding over 12,000 miles a year and doing weekly long rides of 100 miles or more year round. If you are a road cyclist who is successfully cross training with the erg, drop me an email.

In February 2003 I met my fiance, who convinced me to get a little fitter so I joined a gym near work in the October of that year. A bad motor cycle accident in my teens and a couple skiing accidents a decade ago have left my knees and an ankle in a bad way so I started rowing and cycling rather than running to keep the impact down.

Since then am down to 108.9kg, spurred on by the motivation of competing at various events around the country. Recent triumphs have been a sub 5 mile (1609m) and a new PB for the 500m of 1:19.6 at the Newark Indoor Rowing Champs 2008

Point of Rocks MD USA Log Date July, 2007: Quit smoking when I turned 40 on 1/2/2006 after 25+ years. I decided that ice cream was going to be my replacement and 11 months and uncounted quarts later, I began to lose my figure. Although I was probably still healthier with 1/2 quart of Butter Pecan than a pack of Merits, I chose to try my wife's gym. Stair-Masters, bicycles, treadmills, Free Weights, weight machines, funky elyptical machines...ugh. After 8 months I've finally discovered rowing. Nice! I've basically got my own machine in the corner of the local gym that nobody visits..all to meself and I love it. I'm looking better, and mind you....I'm still eating loads of ice cream....and smokeless.
