I got addicted to rowing at Holy Names Academy, Seattle, in 1995. I kept going at Tufts University (1999-2003), and am currently rowing with the Outlaws in Arizona. In the interim, I've spent time with Interlochen Rowing Club and Cascade Crew in Seattle at the Pocock Center. My photo is of rowing on an erg hooked up to a generator that is powering the lights in an art installation at Arizona State University.

Started rowing in January 2004, in the middle of the desert on the man-made Tempe Town Lake (two miles long) in Tempe, Arizona, USA. Took 3 sweep and 1 sculling class with the City of Tempe. Also took 3 erging classes with the city. (Only entered some PR attempts from those classes onto the C2 website.) UPDATE: Not having rowed (or erged) since Fall 2004, it is now March 2007, and I just purchased a new Model E. I enter PRs in the Men's Heavyweights - age 40 to 49. It's good to be back!!!

Rowing indoors in a city where a "river" doesn't actually have to have the wet stuff in it to count as such seems a far cry from oh-dark-thirty on the Isis in Oxford navigating through chunks of ice. But that was 25 years ago... Still the BEST way to stay in shape at 40+.
