Eltham,  London GBR Joined AWL in 2007 and get plenty of motivation from the many competitions we compete in. It's also encouraging to get EM's from the team captain and other team mates about monthly team competitions, individual and club achievements. Everyone is most welcome to join AWL, we have members of all standards in all countries. The more the merrier. Just started rowing on 17th Oct after losing 2 months through injury. Happy rowing to everyone for 2009/10. Please include your EM details if you want a response to your EM, thanks.

Poitiers AWL France FRA The circumference of the earth at the equator is 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 kilometers).I made it. It took me 8 years and change. So now I'll go pole to pole it's a bit shorter 24859.82 miles (40008 km) so only 7 and a half years. As an update, I'm at about 25% of the pole to pole journey. Starting In Poitiers France this puts me on the edge of the north pole.

Manchester Age Without Limits  GBR Big life changes: have entered my 8th decade and fully retired from medicine; also regrettfully have stopped riding the beloved horses - too much traffic and his temperament not suitable: they still have a home for life though and are fun to look after. So I'm concentrating on other pastimes - as well as rowing of course, though that remains slower than I like.

Potomac MD Age Without Limits USA Two of my children rowed in either high school or college and we got an erg machine. I never used it but last Thanksgiving my daughter said "You know, Dad, there is this Holiday Challenege....." So I have been hooked since and really enjoy the workouts on the machine. Also have joined a great Virtual team - Age WIthout Limits - and am continually amazed that over 500 people are always on line submitting times & distances on the 'Net. What a community and associated connectedness. Now, if I could just get a little faster.... See you in cyberspace.

Hoddesdon Age without limits Hertfordshire GBR With a lifetime total of 4 million meters getting very close I thought it was time to revise my profile. Having completed the 2006 Solstice in three easy parts I challenged a much younger fellow gym user to do it properly in 2007. So with a half marathon under our belts I had to accept his return challenge - the 2007 BIRC at Birmingham. Mission accopmlished got the t-shirt and the (gold) medal with a lousy time whilst he had to settle for 8th place in a personal best. Next year!!!! Since then I managed 215k in the Seasonal Challenge and expect to clock up a similar figure during January having joined 'Age Without Limits' 4th January 2008

Pangbourne  Berkshire GBR In my formative years I played a lot of club rugby in Leicester in the UK. By the time I was 30 I suffered from chronic shin splints and knee pains from excessive sprint training and had to give up playing rugby. I still liked to keep fit but found it difficult as I can only jog for a short time without suffering knee pain. In January I discovered rowing as a form of exercise and and it is really great. No more pain in the knees, it is just everywhere else that aches these days.

Philadelphia, PA- Age Without Limits USA The Concept 2 rower has fostered a rewarding and satisfying experience. Many thanks, again, to Joe Gutstadt for the invitation to join Age Without Limits; and for his steadfast bonhomie encouraging the best effort from AWL members. Solidarity, virtual or no, is a strong rowing motivator. The fitness benefits extend into my occupation as an easel painter, specifically in landscape painting. The image to the left depicts the Fairmount Gazebo. It is next to Boathouse Row which harbours much of the "Schuylkill Navy" [www.connorsfinearts.com]

Rome GA USA My first experience with the erg was at a local fitness center in my hometown in Summer '05. Scheduling conflicts interfered with my ability to get to the gym as often as was necessary so I decided to get my own Model D in August '07. Since that time, Rowing has become much more than a means to stay active and fit; It's truly a form of meditation for me every day. A way of renewal that grows each time I use it. I'm positively addicted!

Ramsbury, Wiltshire  Age Without Limits GBR I have never rowed on water and took up the Concept 2 at the start of 2007. Previously a lapsed runner and triathlete but knee problems ruled out any further competitive involvement in sport involving running. I had a reasonable first year with some good ranking performances and competed at BIRC in Nov then picked up a serious rib injury in December. Months later I started to train again only to pick up a back injury which lasted right through the summer. Now back on C2 - but taking it very steady and doing lots of other activities to strengthen the core and avoid further injury. Long term goal for 2009 is to hit 8k in 30mins (and even 16k in an hour possibly) a fast half marathon. Oh and a quick 2k at BIRC would be nice also!!

Waterloo, Ontario  Age Without Limits CAN July 2007 I had a nasty fall off our new prospect vaulting horse - a large grey percheron mare and injured my back. Thankfully nothing was broken. Fitness is my career, so needless to say I don't need to be falling off too many times. It has taken some time for the healing process and instead of riding I devoted my horse focus on training this horse and my daughter for equestrian vaulting. I needed something to restore my own fitness level to greater heights in addition to the classes that I teach. I had wanted a C2 for some time, and setting up fitness centres with C2's (I run 3) made the desire that much more. Finally Feb of 2008 I took the plunge, traded in my spinning cycle for a C2 D. The challenges, team participation and encouragement has been great. What a great thing Concept 2 has going. I am impressed with the running of the AWL team. I receive emails and encouragement as a team and individually - I am inspired enough that I may take my rowing to the water and participate in the Row for Heart program this summer (Heart and Stroke of Ontario). Thanks to all of you for participating in Concept 2's program so that new comers like me can come on board with such unexpected motivation from others.

Jacksonville,NC Age Without Limits USA Thank you to the AWL team members for your encouragement and support. Currently back in the U.S. while wife does battle with cancer. So far, prognosis is excellent. Rowing has kept the my stress down. Highly recommend this activity to all. I row about an hour a day (at a good effort, 1:55 to 2:00), and I am in the best shape of my life. Participated in the FRC 2009 and met my personal goal. I was wore out after the first two weeks but watching other AWL members push themselves to the limit help me continue in my efforts. To all, enjoy the journey of life and erging. #BeatCancer

North Yorkshire   GBR Started rowing about 3 years ago at the Gym at work to get fit and lose weight. Lost the weight now but still row about 3 times a week for fitness and fun. Mainly do 5ks always aiming for 1:58 splits or below, and have started doing 10ks after doing the 200k Holiday challenge. Would like to do a sub 19 minute 5k - current best is about 19:17. NEWSFLASH 18.51 5k achieved! Also do some 2ks PB is now 7.11 could go a bit quicker sub 7 may be possible with some training! Used to do 30 mins PB 7,788m but now stick to 5ks/10ks. Have been logging metres since December 2007 so missed out on nearly 2 years and a million+ metres.

Fort Myers FL USA I started rowing last year but took six months off to train to walk the Portland Marathon. I lost three toenails but gained a finishers medal and am ready to give my feet a break and row again. I found the Ducks in the C2 newsletter and hope to help those meters mount.

Clifton VA USA Started rowing as cross train for my running in 2006. I had been running marathons but the injury limits my miles. I hope to row a marathon later this year. I find I do better as the event gets longer. I may also try to run a marathon when I reach 65.

Medford  OR USA My first experience with a rowing machine was at a local gym I had joined. I loved it so much that I bought a C2 for myself. I am now a member of the million meter club and Age Without Limits Team. I love to participate in the online challenges. My own personal goal is to row from my hometown of Medford, Oregon to Honolulu, Hawaii! I am on track to be half way there by the end of this year of 2009!
