Molalla OR USA I began rowing in April, 2003. On June 21st, 2007 I passed the 10 million meter mark...thank you to my fellow FREE SPIRITs for their encouragement and support. My pic is from a recent trip I made to Smith Rock in Oregon. Awesome rock climbing.

Dixon CA USA Passed 8 million lifetime meters on 27 November 2006. I've found that focusing on about an hour of rowing per day has been a motivating goal for this season. I also find that being a member of Free Spirits is a very inspiring force as there are so many members whose workouts are just amazing.

We raised ~£1,700 for Motor Neurone Disease - thank you everyone. Not sure I could do it again now - need some encouragement to try again!!! Lost a lot of form lately but hanging on in there. Ballston Lake NY USA I am the other half of the wife-husband team on the 10,000 meter board and in Free Spirits. We stayed on the 10K board the last two years, and are somewhat less compulsive now, but we intend to finish on the 10K board again. We started erging at the suggestion of a trainer at an US Sailing symposium in 2003 that rowing was more sailing specific than elliptical machines. Like many others on the boards, a former long distance runner with defective legs. FRC2003, FRC2004YMCA, FRC2005, FRC2006

Tried out for the crew team at Syracuse after blowing out my ankle playing football. National champions in Men's Heavyweight 8 in 1987. Graduated in '90 and didn't touch an erg again until 2006... when I was contacted by Michelle and Free Spirits. The rest is history... Completed my second marathon which was easier than the first (how can one say such a thing)- will probably do it again before the year is out. Still have the challenge of completing 50 km to fulfill. The inspiration and support found in belonging to a team can not be underrated. For anyone new to the game don't be afraid to ask someone who belongs to a team, you'll find there's a whole new world out there. Take a look at our website www.freespiritsrowing.com.

Joining the Free Spirits (www.freespiritsrowing.com) has been fun and encouraged me to get working again. Bridgend Wales GBR All my rowing is set at 10.000m distance. I aim to complete each one sub 40'. The photograph shows me 3/4 of the way through a 10,000m row with a bit of a sweat on and consentrating, as ever, on that split! My PB is 37:56.0 (1:53.8) in June 2006. I did the damage in the first half of the row with 1:51 and 1:52 splits, I then hung in there for the the remainder. Weight control is also an added bonus to my training routine. I completed a marathon in August '07 in 3hrs 15"08.4' Life-time total as of April 2009 - 3,638,388m.

Dunedin Otago NZL I just use the machines when it is too dark or windy to row. I hate spending much time on them because I have work so hard to keep the result honest. In the winter it is part of the weekly routine, to keep fit for the masters rowing season. My goal was to get fit enough to row for 30mins without passing out. My next goal is to row sub 7mins for the 2k, before passing out.

Ottawa ON CAN Want to make all sorts of goals: 315 squat, 365 deadlift, 20 reps dead hang pullups, 200 reps on the kettlebell Secret Service Snatch Test (email me if you want to know what that is). But most of all...I want to go sub-7 2k on the erg...the greatest exercise machine ever invented. Going to start cranking out the metres now to get the endurance base I'll need to make that goal.

Hojbjerg   DEN Going for the 100k holiday challenge and then for 1 million logged meters - very addictive and fun. Good alternative to running on rainy days - and then you can even watch champions league simultanious. http://data.freespiritsrowing.com/freespirits/index.html

Sale    GBR Have had an on/off relationship with the C2 for several years. Though have decided after a long absence from doing any exercise - that I must do something! So got back on the rower two weeks ago and helped Free Spirits reach the Moon! Will be very happy if I can reach the million meters this season.

Lincoln Lincolnshire GBR Started Rowing training on April 24th 2007, after piling on pounds over the last year (up to 136.5kg/300lbs). Since then am down to 108.9kg, spurred on by the motivation of competing at various events around the country. Recent triumphs have been a sub 5 mile (1609m) and a new PB for the 500m of 1:19.6 at the Newark Indoor Rowing Champs 2008

It's all extremely useful to those of us not part of a club. Here's to staying fit in my 40s instead of trying to get fit in my 40s ;-) Cheers
