London UK, FREE SPIRITS GBR Rowed at college 1990-93. Introduced to the ergo then. Rowed on and off every since, more consistently since 2000. Got own Erg 2003. Joined Free Spirits in July 2006 and then scared them by doing a mad week of 7 x 50k. Seriously, what a great club. Come and visit at www.freespiritsrowing.com. Better still, join up. Ballston Lake NY USA I am the other half of the wife-husband team on the 10,000 meter board and in Free Spirits. We stayed on the 10K board the last two years, and are somewhat less compulsive now, but we intend to finish on the 10K board again. We started erging at the suggestion of a trainer at an US Sailing symposium in 2003 that rowing was more sailing specific than elliptical machines. Like many others on the boards, a former long distance runner with defective legs. FRC2003, FRC2004YMCA, FRC2005, FRC2006

Newport, Essex Free Spirits GBR My water rowing weight was 96kg so my ergo is here in an effort to get me back there. Joining the Free Spirits (www.freespiritsrowing.com) has been fun and encouraged me to get working again. I managed a few hundred thousand metres last season, but failed to do the annual end of season marathon (I did a FM in 2004 and 2005). New baby and all that... This year my target is 700,000m. Mind you, at the rate I have rowed since the motivation of Free Spirits, I will achieve 2 million! It can't last...

Fredericksburg TX USA Erg owner since 1988. Back in the 90's I had some top 10 placings for the 1/2 hour and 1 hour rankings and did 10 million meters from 94-98. These days I use the erg mostly for cross training but sometimes get into a groove of accumulating meters. Road cycling has been my primary sport since the 70's. I am currently riding over 12,000 miles a year and doing weekly long rides of 100 miles or more year round. If you are a road cyclist who is successfully cross training with the erg, drop me an email.

Any helpful pointers or ideas for motivation would be much appreciated.
