Dynamic: The Recovery

Jul 10, 2019

The Dynamic RowErg feels different than our Model D or Model E Indoor Rowers, primarily because the athlete stays mostly stationary while the feet move during each stroke. The Dynamic can be a great training tool since it provides a closer simulation to on water rowing. This simulation happens mostly on the recovery: the Dynamic demands more work by the athlete as he or she returns up the slide with strong body preparation into compression. Continue Reading ›

Jun 17, 2019

Concept2 Bantam Sculls are low-cost and durable; they are also proving themselves to be a versatile option for athletes of all ages.

Narragansett Boat Club (NBC)—also known as America’s Oldest Boat Club (in operation since 1838!)—offers rowing for recreation and competition for athletes of all ages. Member Ruth Berenson considered the Bantam as a good club oar because of the price ($350 per pair), durability, and their ease of handling. The small and efficient blade size on the Bantam is a nice fit for many of their athletes. Continue Reading ›

The SkiErg for Injury Recovery

I love movement and exercise, and if you're reading this then chances are you enjoy a healthy dose of movement as well. We rely on our bodies as vehicles for movement and they usually deliver, allowing us collectively to do some amazing things. Sometimes, however, bodies break down and we get injured. And when that happens it can be an incredibly frustrating thing, especially when it prevents us from moving in the way we are used to and from doing the things we love.
In this blog I will share my experience using the Concept2 SkiErg while recovering from two surgeries: one to repair a broken left fibula and one to trim a torn right meniscus. Continue Reading ›

3 Great Ways to Train While Pregnant

Jun 06, 2019

Any exercise while pregnant should be performed under the supervision of an appropriate medical professional. The information here is not provided as medical advice.

Pregnancy is a time of many changes—but abandoning your exercise routine doesn’t have to be one of them. Under the guidance of medical supervision, rowing, skiing or cycling can be excellent ways to stay healthy and fit before (and after!) baby. If you’ve been using Concept2 equipment before becoming pregnant, this may be a great way to continue staying active.

All Concept2 ergs—RowErg, SkiErg and BikeErg—allow the user to easily adjust intensity. The harder you work, the faster the flywheel spins, and the more wind resistance will be generated. As you work harder, the erg responds with more resistance. This user-controlled resistance makes our ergs versatile fitness tools. Whether you’re looking to maintain intensity or bring your workouts down a notch, Concept2 erg give you control of your workouts. With a few adjustments for comfort, Concept2 ergs may provide options to continue exercising up to your due date. Continue Reading ›

The Strong, Durable Skinny

The Skinny shaft for our oars and sculls is deceiving: the smaller diameter looks elegant—but it is also strong.

To create the Skinny shaft, a similar amount of carbon is used as our standard Ultralight shaft. Due to the similarity of the components, fully assembled Skinny and the Ultralight shafts weigh nearly the same. Continue Reading ›

10 Ways to Row Like a Pro

May 28, 2019

Rowing may not be your primary sport but it’s a great way to stay fit. There’s usually a few people at the gym who—it’s clear—take their rowing workouts very seriously. Their stroke is smooth, powerful and rhythmic. They likely have rowed on water and have calluses on their hands to prove it.

The rowing stroke is easy to learn but doesn’t always come naturally (to some). Here are some ways to approach the RowErg more confidently. Continue Reading ›

May 20, 2019

This year kicks off the inaugural BikeErg World Sprints: a virtual 4000 meter (4k) race, July 3–7, 2019, raced anywhere you can compete on a BikeErg.

We’ve put together a training plan to help you prepare. Many athletes are outdoors this time of year cycling or training in other sports. Two sessions per week on the BikeErg, however, can keep you focused on the strength and power you’ll need for a time trial. Continue Reading ›
