Concept2 is excited to share resources for adaptive athletes and feature the experiences of athletes who use our products. Todd's story is the first of our series of blog posts focusing on adaptive athletes.

Andy Wigren (stroke) and Todd Vogt (bow) represent the US in the PR3 Men's Pair.

Todd Vogt fell in love with the sport of rowing as a college freshman at the University of Buffalo in 1992. He was able to make rowing his career and became a rowing coach while continuing to row competitively himself. “I love the physical and mental challenge of the sport,” Vogt explains. But in June of 2018, when Vogt was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease at the age of 43, he was crushed. “I thought my athletic life was over,” he recalled.

For many adaptive athletes like Vogt, Concept2 provides options for adaptive athletes to find (or rediscover) sport and fitness. Continue Reading ›

Rowing for Runners

Rowing is a “leg sport," working the quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and calves. Runners can benefit by incorporating more rowing into their training.

A leg sport? Yes! Think of each stroke as a horizontal “jump.” Strong rowers engage their quadriceps and glutes to push their oars through the water. Each stroke moves through the knee, hip and elbow joints to create a full-body low-impact workout. Of course, rowing doesn't work only the legs: the core and upper body on each stroke results in a dynamic high-Calorie burning workout. Continue Reading ›

From 1991 to 2003, Larry Gluckman served Concept2 as our Human Resources staff and everyone’s personal coach. Larry had coached numerous Olympic and National Team crews in the years before he joined Concept2 and went back to coaching after he left us.

Larry's workout wisdom is evergreen, and well worth reposting 24 years later—with a few updates to reflect that fact that we now have the SkiErg and BikeErg in addition to our RowErg.

The finish line bridge on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic course.

Concept2 was saddened to learn of the tragic drowning of PR1 athlete Dzmitry Ryshkevich (Belarus) during a training session at the World Championships in Linz, Austria. Our condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

The World Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria, kicked off the Olympic and Paralympic qualification process for many crews with their sights on Tokyo 2020. 86% of all medal-winning boats at the 2019 World Rowing Championships rowed with Concept2 oars and sculls! Countries race to qualify in each boat class, qualifying the boats, not the athletes. This year's event attracted nearly 1200 competitors from 80 countries, including two outstanding "older" elite competitors of note: Continue Reading ›
