Imagine all of a coach’s concerns on race day: Where do we park? What will we eat? Are the athletes warmed up? Did the coxswain weigh in already? Is that a tailwind? What lane are we in? Is the boat rigged? Concept2 CTS tries to remove at least one concern for coaches by ensuring race day oars are competition ready.
Our Regatta Service trailer travels throughout the year to offer free oar repair service to race competitors. The schedule rotates every few years so that we can tend to our customers in different geographic regions and at different levels of competition: juniors, collegiate, club, masters, and elite. This month, the Regatta Service trailer took an extended road trip to Philadelphia for the Dad Vail and Stotesbury Cup Regattas, both important races for collegiate and high school teams, respectively. Both events have thousands of competitors, in fact, the Stotesbury Cup is the largest scholastic regatta in the world with over 5000 high school rowers this year. To say the regatta service team was extremely busy is an understatement!
Just to keep things interesting, in between these regatta weekends the trailer stopped along the famed Boathouse Row to offer service to the many boathouses along the historic stretch of Kelly Drive. We set up shop near Vesper Boat Club, the former rowing home of Concept2 Founder Dick Dreissigacker, who spent many hours on this famous length of the Schuylkill River.
Boathouse Row includes over a dozen boat clubs and numerous high school, collegiate, masters, and club teams. The Schuylkill Navy of Philadelphia, the governing body, is the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States. Just walking along Kelly Drive impresses upon you the historic significance of the boathouses’ architectures, the reverence to rowing, and the commitment to the sport.
Concept2 CTS cannot attend every regatta, so we provide care and maintenance instructions to help keep your oars in the best condition year-round. Call us if you have questions, we’re here to help!
