Training around the Bend

Jun 11, 2012

Greetings SkiErg Followers! Coming to you from Bend, Oregon, I am finishing up my first ski training camp for the 2012–2013 season. That’s right, it’s time to start up again! I had a good season this past year, despite chasing snow most of the winter and skiing on man-made snow for the most consecutive days in a row ever. After spring series in Craftsbury, Vermont, Nordic skiers all over the country took most of April to recover and are now back at it. This year there is a World Cup in Canada in December, meaning the US takes more athletes to compete, so everyone is ramping up with quality training. Before Bend, the US team had a testing camp in Park City, Utah, at the new Olympic Training Center, and were put through many different physical challenges. One of their tests was using the SkiErg! It’s good to see it being utilized at the highest level. Continue Reading ›

The Races Go On

Mar 29, 2012

Our neighbors at Craftsbury Outdoor Center are playing host this week to the elite North American Nordic ski community at the 2012 SuperTour Finals and Long Distance Nationals. Despite summerlike temperatures last week that melted every flake of snow in Morrisville and most of Vermont, there is still world-class skiing at Craftsbury, thanks to a winter of snowmaking and a ton of hard work in the weeks leading up to the races. No Snow, No Problem!

Dec 29, 2011

My SkiErg is getting lots of use, even when I am not near it! Back in the cities, the advanced training group from Balance Nordic used it as a threshold 2k max effort testing device to set training zones for the season. Joel Woodward, one of the group’s core members, told me in an email, “I literally still had the shakes when I went to bed… that test is so hard!” After seeing many people compete in the SkiErg World Sprints 1000m competition, I could vouch for that statement! Training Veterans with the SkiErg

Aug 26, 2011

CXC has many different chapters as part of their program, including the Elite, Juniors, Masters, and Adapted teams. This past weekend, I traveled down to Chicago to help promote our adapted sports program at a disabled veteran’s camp. The camp had a maximum capacity of 50 people, which was unfortunate because there are not nearly enough opportunities like this one in the country. The participants, who came from all over, were able to try a variety of sports catered to all different physical abilities. Our sports station offered six laser biathlon guns and targets, four sitskis, and two Concept2 SkiErgs where participants learned proper skiing technique. Continue Reading ›
