Last week in our neighboring town of Stowe, Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge played host to several hundred of the fastest junior cross country skiers in the country. They were here for the annual Junior Nationals—a week-long series of races contested by teams from each of the 10 US regions in skiing. Each region’s team is determined through a series of regional races earlier in the winter, leading up to this championship. For most of these junior skiers, ages 14—19, the goal of making their regional team is the focus of their training all year long. We congratulate all of these young skiers! A cold January day in Copenhagen was warmed up by some excellent racing at the 11th Concept2 Euro Open. The centrepiece of the day was undoubtedly the Men’s Open Lwt. Denmark has a proud lightweight tradition, and in this land of 75kg warriors, Henrik Stephansen is king. The current lightweight world record holder and lightweight single scull world champion, Henrik first burst onto the scene at the age of 19 when he set a new world record of 6:02.2 at the world indoor rowing championship. Some of you may remember the story we wrote in the Fall 2009 issue of the Update about our CFO (“Chief Fishing Officer”), Jon Williams. Well, he’s still the in-house Fish Game Champion…but he doesn’t come close to the fishing exploits of customer Ken Petterson.
