Competitors will join the action both in person, and virtually in real time from around the world, using the same timing and results system. In addition to individual races at the 2000m and 500m distances, team 2000m relays and para races, this year’s championship will feature the Versa Challenge, a brand new competition made up of five different surprise events taking place over the two days in Toronto. German rower Oliver Zeidler originally came to prominence in indoor rowing when he won the World Games in Wroclaw in 2017 with a time of 5:42.0 in his first ever indoor race. His rowing career has gone from strength to strength since that first indoor race. On the water, he competed in the Tokyo Olympics, and is the current reigning World Champion in the Men’s Single Sculls. The 2023 World Indoor Rowing Championships in Mississauga, Toronto, February 25–26, sees him return to the world indoor stage for the first time since 2017, so we took the opportunity to sit down with him for a quick chat. HYROX is a relatively new fitness race that is gaining traction with athletes around the world. Originating in Germany in 2017, HYROX events are now held in 30 cities in 11 countries. The race is the same regardless of location—eight different functional fitness movements, followed by a 1k run.
