New Year's Resolutions

Ah, January. That time of fresh starts, new goals…and the ubiquitous New Year’s resolution. Whether you believe in making them or not, each January, thousands of people resolve to do any number of things they hope to accomplish in the coming year. 

For many of us, those resolutions are strikingly similar: save more, drink less, spend more time with family and friends, and of course lose weight and get fit. Indeed, a quick internet search of “Top Ten New Year’s Resolutions” consistently puts lose weight and/or get fit near the top of the list. And, really, (Holiday Challenge notwithstanding) who can blame us following a season rife with fruitcakes, eggnog, latkes and mandel bread?

The stark reality is that holiday frivolity often leads to January pounds, and January pounds lead to New Year’s weight-loss resolutions. The starker reality is that by the end of June, half of all resolution-makers will have given up the goal…which could mean increased poundage year after year.

Whether you’re resolving to lose 5, 75, or 175 pounds, remember to take it one step at a time (5 minutes on the indoor rower is better than no minutes!) and know that there are many others on the same journey too.
