Indoor Rowing in India
On my last trip I traveled to India. India belongs to those countries that are growing fast: current estimated population is 1.2 billion and estimated growth of GDP in 2011 was 8%.
This means that there is a potential group of people who want to or need to get fit—ideally by rowing. One of my tasks was to find groups of people who already use the Concept2 Indoor Rower.
In Gurgaon (right next to New Delhi) I visited Reebok CrossFit One, where they currently have 20 indoor rowers.

I taught a half-day training class to 20 trainers who got to know the benefits of the indoor rower. I’m sure that they will use the indoor rowers on a more regular basis after that training.

In Mumbai, I found Fitness First, where they have a few Model Es, but the trainers only had a little idea of how to use them. There I worked with six trainers on how to use the machines.

And I took part in a CrossFit class in Mumbai—CrossFit Om. That was a tough one…

Besides educating trainers and doing CrossFit, I visited various resellers, fitness clubs and logistic companies. We hope to set up better distribution to help bring rowing to India.
