A new high of $31,434.96 was raised by the participants in the 2012 Holiday Challenge—up about $4000 from last year! This was thanks to the efforts of 2483 individuals who achieved the 200k level, over 5500 who surpassed 100k, and 385 kids and adaptive athletes who rowed or skied 50k—all between American Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve! A total of over 1.3 billion meters was reached—well over 10 million more meters than last year. An amazing nine individuals logged over one million meters each during these four weeks. That’s an average of over 31,250 meters per day!
Since 2009, the Holiday Challenge has been about more than just working out and staying fit through the holidays. Meters rowed and skied translate into contributions towards select charities, thanks to a donation from Concept2. This year, we surpassed the goal of raising over $30,000 for four great causes, and we have raised over $100,000 in the past four years!
Here are the contributions for each charity this year:
- Doctors Without Borders, 52.29%, $16,437.29
- Americares, 26.5%, $8,330.01
- Natural Resources Defense Council, 12.21%, $3,839.39
- Vermont Land Trust, 9.0%, $2,828.27
Thanks to everyone who participated!
Now it’s on to the next event: the Virtual Team Challenge in January. In the Virtual Team Challenge, each team completes as many meters as they can collectively between January 1 and January 31. There are some very competitive rowers and skiers out there already racking up those meters! The deadline for joining the challenge is January 15, so it’s not too late to find a team and join the fun. Learn more
