Four local Vermont Nordic athletes have their sights set on Sochi and have a good shot at making the team—in fact, one has already qualified! Two are Nordic skiers, two are biathletes, and all have used the SkiErg during the course of their training. All four attended high schools within an hour of Concept2. They developed strong friendships as they raced against each other in both running and skiing throughout their high school years. Three of them trained together as junior skiers at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and three went on to compete as teammates at Dartmouth College. They are dedicated athletes, tough competitors and wonderful young women. We thought you might enjoy following them as they navigate the last few months of Olympic qualification.
Susan Dunklee has already qualified for Sochi as a member of the US Biathlon Team! She met the criteria last season by achieving two top-15 finishes in World Cup Racing. Follow Susan’s blog.
Liz Stephen was a member of the US Olympic Team in Vancouver in 2010 and has been competing on the World Cup circuit every winter since then. She is one of the top US distance racers and is an outstanding hill climber, either by foot or by ski! Follow Liz’s blog.
Ida Sargent is in her 1st year on the USA team and is a veteran of several years of World Cup racing as a B team member. She ranks as one of the top US sprinters and has had very good performances in distance races as well. Ida's blog covers her training and racing.
Hannah Dreissigacker moved up to the US Biathlon A Team this year, after a year on the B Team. She raced her first few World Cups last winter and also made the team for World Championships. (Full disclosure: Her Dad and uncle started Concept2, and her mom is writing this blog post.) Her blog also doubles as an “art blog.”
We hope you enjoy following these athletes as they navigate the final stage of the journey—hopefully all landing in Sochi!
