Concept2 CTS has recently returned from the 2014 CrossFit Games in Carson, California, July 25–27. As usual, the event was a display of athleticism, fitness and hard core determination—all under the blazing California sun.
The CrossFit Games are the culmination of a season of CrossFit regional athletic events that whittle down the athlete pool to about 100 of the world’s fittest people. At the Games, athletes compete for the title of the “Fittest on Earth” and cash prizes.
The Concept2 Model D Indoor Rower was used in three events. Wednesday's Masters' competition featured the indoor rower in a WOD called "2007," which included a 1000m row, along with pull-ups and push jerks. Friday morning’s individual event—the Triple 3—took place on the entryway to the StubHub Center, along a palm tree-lined driveway. Eighty-eight Model Ds took "center stage" making a ring around the entry, and athletes had to row 3k, complete 300 double-unders and a 3-mile run. Then, on Sunday morning, the Model D made another appearance for the team 50s event: 50-calorie row, 50 GHD sit-ups, 50 wall-ball shots and 50 box jump overs.
The Concept2 CTS booth in Vendor Village saw a lot of activity all weekend long with people trying out the indoor rowers and SkiErgs and taking part in mini-biathlon races. We also hosted an exhibition of biathlon with SkiErgs and electronic rifles used for actual biathlon training. Coach Rob Rosser of the US Paralympic Biathlon team was on hand to demonstrate technique and the finer points of shooting.
All in all, it was a great showing for the Concept2 Indoor Rowers and SkiErgs. A special congratulations goes out to Vermonter Mat Fraser of Champlain Valley CrossFit who took second place overall! Congratulations Mat and all the Games competitors. Time to rest up and get ready for next year!
